Η λίμνη Κρεμαστών είναι η μεγαλύτερη τεχνητή
λίμνη της Ελλάδος. Δημιουργήθηκε μετά την κατασκευή του φράγματος
των Κρεμαστών το 1965 από την συσσώρευση υδάτινων όγκων των ποταμών Αχελώου, Αγραφιώτη, Ταυρωπού και Τρικεριώτη.
Kremaston Lake is the largest artificial lake in Greece. Created after the dam construction of Kremaston in 1965 by the accumulation of water from the rivers Achelous, Agrafioti, Tavropos and Trikerioti.
Η βυζαντινή εκκλησία της Παναγίας της Επισκοπής στη λίμνη Κρεμαστών
βυθίστηκε το 1965, όταν 20 χωριά εκκενώθηκαν και η περιοχή πλημμύρισε με
νερό για την κατασκευή του υδροηλεκτρικού φράγματος των Κρεμαστών (μεγαλύτερου γαιοφράγματος στην Ευρώπη).
Χτισμένη τον 8ο αιώνα, η εκκλησία εντοπίστηκε σχεδόν ανέπαφη σε βάθος 32
μέτρων από καταδυτική αποστολή το 2008.
Έτσι
σήμερα, όπου λόγω της ανομβρίας η στάθμη της λίμνης πέφτει κορμοί δέντρων, σκεπές σπιτιών, σκαλοπάτια που κάποτε
οδηγούσαν στο εσωτερικό αρχοντικών, ακόμη και τζάκια, απομεινάρια από έναν
κόσμο που για χρόνια παρέμεναν στον πάτο του βυθού, σήμερα ξεπροβάλλουν στην
επιφάνεια των νερών. Ολόκληρα χωριά, πέτρινα σπίτια και ιστορικοί ναοί,
καταποντισμένα σαν μια άλλη Ατλαντίδα, αναδύονται από ένα υδάτινο νεκροταφείο.
The
secret of the lake is hided under the water where dozens of villages,
bridges and churches, many important monuments of a long cultural
heritage removed from the map, when the waters covered the predetermined
area .So
now, where due to the drought the lake level falls trunks , roofs of
houses, stairs that once led to the interior mansions, and even
fireplaces. Remnants of a world that for years remained at the bottom of
the bottom, now pop up in surface waters. Entire villages, stone houses and historical temples, sunken like another Atlantis, emerge from an aquatic graveyard.

απέχει περίπου 60χλμ από το κέντρο του Αγρινίου και περίπου 57 από το κέντρο
του Καρπενησίου.
Η πρόσβαση στην λίμνη γίνεται από το οδικό δίκτυο που ενώνει
τις δύο πόλεις. Μία διαδρομή μαγευτική που μπροστά στους επισκέπτες αποκαλύπτει
την άγρια ομορφιά του τόπου.
The lake is about 60 km from the center of Agrinio and about 57 from the center of Karpenisiou.
Access to the lake is off the road that connects the two cities. A magical journey in front of the guests reveals the wild beauty of the place.
